United Vertical Speed Indicator 7040

This is a standard mechanical 3-1/8 inch panel-mounted Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI), also known as a rate-of-climb indicator. Manufactured by United Instruments, this instrument provides the flight crew with a continuous, real-time indication of the aircraft's rate of ascent or descent.

Description

This unit has been bench tested by an FAA certified repair station and it comes with an 8130 single release dated 06/03/2026.

Key Technical Capabilities
  • Differential Pressure Sensing: Operates mechanically using an internal diaphragm and a calibrated precision metering screw. It senses the rate of ambient static pressure change from the pitot-static system without requiring electrical power for core needle operation.
  • Linear Rate of Change Resolution: The display needle moves clockwise to indicate a climb and counter-clockwise to indicate a descent, starting from a true 9 o’clock “zero” position. Built-in mechanical stops safely limit needle over-travel at the scale boundaries.
  • Integrated Zero Calibration: Features an external, manual zero-adjustment screw located on the front face bezel at the 7 o’clock position. This allows maintenance or flight crews to easily null the pointer back to zero to compensate for localized atmospheric shifts or aging mechanical drift.
  • Temperature Compensated Internals: Built with internal components engineered to counter thermal expansion and contraction, ensuring steady and reliable vertical speed readings throughout rapid ambient temperature changes during high-altitude climbs or descents.
