Stormscope Series II Antenna

The Stormscope Series II Antenna is an externally mounted lightning detection sensor certified for a broad range of general aviation, turboprop, and corporate jet aircraft. Serving as the baseline receiver for the WX-1000 series weather mapping processor, this low-profile teardrop antenna detects the localized electromagnetic radiation emitted by intra-cloud and cloud-to-ground electrical discharges. This information allows the system to map thunderstorm activity in real time.

Description

This unit has been bench tested by an FAA certified repair station and it comes with an 8130 single release dated 7/21/2026.

Key Technical Capabilities
  • Multi-Directional Strike Sensing: Houses an internal solid-state receiver loop and sense antenna matrix. This configuration monitors 360 degrees of ambient atmospheric airspace to accurately identify the bearing and relative intensity of convective lightning strikes.
  • Aerodynamic Low-Profile Geometry: Encased in a contoured, low-drag composite white radome weighing approximately 1.8 lbs. It is designed for installation on the upper or lower fuselage skin with minimal drag penalty at high cruise speeds.
  • Wide Airframe Compatibility: Factory approved and listed under Textron Aviation catalogs for integration onto high-altitude corporate airframes. Compatible aircraft include the Cessna Citation series (M2, CJ1 through CJ4, Excel, XLS), Beechcraft Premier, and Pilatus PC-12 fleets.
  • Rigid Base Mounting Interface: Engineered with a standardized bolt-hole layout featuring a flat grounding base and an integrated multi-pin electrical harness interface. This design secures the antenna against heavy high-altitude vibration and prevents moisture entry into the airframe shell.
  • System Cross-Compatibility: Operates interchangeably as a primary sensor across legacy 3M, BFGoodrich, and L3 WX-1000 display configurations. This compatibility provides flexibility for fleet operators replacing damaged external components without modifying internal processors.
